The first time I went to Tenerife I did it without thinking much where I was going to stay. Upon my return from the trip I realized that it was important to know where to stay in Tenerife. It changes a lot from north to south and I’ll tell you why.
Being an island from afar it doesn’t look so big. But what a mistake. Tenerife not only is it big, but it changes geographically, culturally and climatologically. Yes. All in one place.
But what is the best area to stay in Tenerife?
Like many other answers, this is also accompanied by a “depends.” This is mainly due to what type of accommodation you are looking for in Tenerife and what type of activity .
Whether you stay in the south or in the north you should know that excursions in Tenerife are never lacking. Each one has a unique appeal and is designed for different types of travelers.
North or south Where to stay in Tenerife?
I imagine you already know what kind of traveler you are. Having clear if you are calm or if you like the march and the party we must ask another question: what kind of trip do you want to do?
Maybe you are one of those who travel calmly like me, which I have recommended how to do Mindfulness while traveling , but maybe you feel like taking a different trip and giving rein to your most festive soul.
Staying in the south of Tenerife
After my trip I learned that staying in the south of Tenerife is something that almost all travelers arriving from other countries do . Either for personal pleasure or because the packages they offer are for those areas, but the truth is that there are more foreigners.
This also means that there are more recreational activities, that the hotels are larger and there is more variety in the accommodation. But it also makes prices rise a little.
In the south are the best beaches and the nightlife.
On the other hand, staying in the south of Tenerife will allow us to find better beaches and a better climate. Yes, as you read, the weather is not the same throughout the island.
In summary we could highlight these characteristics of the south of the island:
- It has better beaches
- The hotel offer is more varied with larger hotels.
- It is the party and march area. If you like nightlife this is your area.
- There are many more foreigners and they may only speak English in some places.
- The weather is much better.
- Accommodation prices may be a little more expensive than in the north.
- In addition to hotels, there are huge resorts that offer the “all inclusive” option and giant swimming pools.
If you are interested in staying in the south of Tenerife I recommend that you look at these accommodations that adapt to what you are looking for.
Staying in the north of Tenerife
As I said above to travel to Tenerife it is a good idea to know where to stay first . We did not know and we went north.
The truth is that we were not upset at all because it goes with our much quieter style.
Quiet. That is perhaps one of the main features in contrast to the south. To stay in the north of Tenerife is to avoid parties and a lot of movement.
We are a little quieter travelers and although sometimes we like to run to get to the sites, we enjoy a lot of rest. Staying in the north of Tenerife , now that I think about it, was a good option to which we arrived by chance.
In addition this area is full of more accessible hotels for all budgets, something that is great if you want to make a cheap trip and spend little . The bad thing about these hotels is that they don’t have the luxury and the kilometer pools that those in the south have.
The contrast between north and south can be large. That is why another of the differences we see is the type of traveler. There are fewer foreigners and both nationals and foreigners tend to be calmer.
The north is somewhat more familiar and of travelers a little less young. But if you are in your 20s or 30s and without family do not discard it because it is a total relaxation.
The weather is something that we will have to take into account if we travel to the north of Tenerife . You may have cloudy, colder and rainy days, while in the south at the same time there is sunshine.
In summary we could say that traveling to the north of Tenerife is characterized by:
- A much quieter area for a quieter trip.
- Less luxurious hotels, but also much cheaper.
- Fewer parties and less march at night.
- The weather may not be so good and you can catch some rain.
